Adversity + Passion = Creativity

On one media interview, I was asked, "Can creativity really contribute to economic growth?

In fact, I've been asked many times of these types and many were challenging to expound.  I must admit I'm penchant for thought-provoking conversations.  I wish I have all the answers.  Sadly I don't.

But here's an AVP from the recently concluded Creative Industries Summit featuring yours truly with other sector chairmen of Creative Cebu and front liner DTI Provincial Director Nelia Navarro sharing their views as well.

Rescue A Hero's perfect finale

I was awed by Rescue A Hero's finale in this video. So much improvement here. And by the sound of the audio capture, the fans seemed happy.

What makes a show good show is a memorable experience. The best memories usually breathe and happen at the tail end of an event. With this in mind, always remember to not leave the audience wanting less.

The reason is very simple. We all love good endings.

About Asking Mass Support

Support.

Such an abused concept, isn't it?

When we want to do something that we think is good yet we feel unsure of we say "we need your support."

We go for the slogan "support indie music" or "support local music" or "support the oil price hike" or "support the fight for tuition fee increase". Whatever the agenda is, the message is usually about hope.

Or is it?

That messianic plea for a united ideology may sound appealing at first glance. But really when you cross examine, it's actually just about a person's tinge of frustration magnified.

I chose to inspire, encourage, and motivate. Not criticize.

Support comes wholeheartedly when the giving starts from you - not the other way around. Support is given easily when the giving was initiated by and from the source.

Trust me. This approach works far better than protest rallies.

Act Fast And Be First

"Da! Daan pa lagi ko mao to ang tubag."

Back in grade school, our teacher would ask us some questions and if we were not sure of the answer, the classroom would go quiet. Suddenly, somebody dared to shout the answer.

Then we would regret not being able to say it first when we knew about it all along.

Being scared is one habit too hard to break. Skepticism is another serious concern of equal magnitude.

One friend told me that if you think you have in idea and believe that it could work... do it fast. These days it is important to get things done soonest time a concept lands on your lap.

Whenever you have an idea that can be beneficial for everyone, always keep in mind that someone else in this planet may be thinking the same thing.

Case in point : Do not wait for the time thinking that you've learned and know enough. Act fast. Be first. And more importantly learn to be bold.

Music Is Hope

Some time ago, I wrote an entry professing that man is not poor when money is scarce... he is poor when ideas run dry. And ideas come to materialize in countless forms.

Movies, books, newpapers, food... you name it. In fact money was invented from the very question that there must be another way to trade goods without having to sacrifice a valuable asset. And from this point, understanding how important ideas are is a good start.

One of the reasons why I am so passionately enticed in the art of songwriting is because it is a translation of ideas derived from the soul's banquet of thoughts. For example, a song doesn't teach us how to love or how it works, it simply give us the idea of how it feels like from our personal experience.

Music impacts people - in all levels, simply because it motivates us to move and take action.

Music inspires us.

Music makes us see things beyond the physical. It breathes through us. It speaks the truth without hurting us too much. It is one of the languages of our soul.

Music is hope. The song is its deliverance.

Money Doesn't Make The World Go 'Round

The recession in the U.S., the supposedly most powerful country in the world (heck probably in the universe) didn't stop the earth from rotating its axis and continues to revolve around the sun.

And so the popular myth about the devil's supposed most powerful invention supported with a global slogan "money makes the world go 'round", is fast becoming the world's famous fallacy.

The truth is... the world keeps on turning not because of economic stability, emotions, or what have you. It's because man, in his godlike goodness never runs out of ideas.

The world needs great ideas.

The world needs creative people.

The world needs to reinvent itself sometimes.

Great businesses succeed not because of large capital investments but because there are creative people behind it. All the great things we see in this earth were from ideas inspired by day to day problems. It is from that plane of thought where minds start working.

A poor man is not he who has no cash but he who has no ideas.

The Dory Philosophy

Now that I think about it, whenever I feel that there's a lull or a seemingly unclear direction in my endeavors, Dory's words would give me that push.

Despite her short term memory loss problem, this regal tang still manages to inspire me by reminding me to keep swimming...

Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming...

I do take these words seriously. It has a profound effect on me.

Finding Nemo is probably one of the best movies of our time. Apart from the plot and its roster of fascinating characters, the film never fails to remind me about getting things done by simply moving forward.

The 3-word script worked.
